Sony Unveils New VaioTablet S: A Nice Unit With Software Problems

Sony was a bit 'slow to get the game compressed, but the first introduction of the state - an unusual shape, the Android-powered Tablet S - has aroused much curiosity.

The excitement is not only the design, either. The company is one of the few with a space and ecosystem large enough to take the Apple iPad.

The material point of view, it is clear that the company is making a statement about how to live and work with this unit. The basic form of the S platform calls to mind a book or magazine folded, and immediately will allow you to remember the days when people use products obsolete and harmful to the environment based on paper.

But Sony is the first step in this way to change the game or move the ball forward? Or if the company offers a family entry already crowded space?

Whether it is heated, this model is probably a matter of taste, but I found myself in the mind repeatedly, as options in both hands and with one hand and a flat surface. Conical shape allows a little 'easier to write when you have an S on the table.

Tablet S, will be in stores in September for $ 499 (the same as the iPad, 2), is the first of two unique design for the tablets, that Sony is moving this year. The company also publishes the device is copied to another P Tablet to go on sale later this year, which has two screens and can be closed not included, as opposed to a flip phone.

Sony's reputation is a company that has the ability to produce beautiful, high-end products that do not always work very well. Tablet S is no exception.

S Tablet is a standalone device with many advantages in terms of industrial design, but there are some mistakes here that make the device feel a bit cheaper than some of the competition.

The device sports 9.4 inches and weighs 1.33 pounds, while Sony says it is lighter in your hands because of how the shape allows weight to be distributed.

It is unclear whether this is true or not, but the device was essentially plastic definitely less weight in my hands.

The device is powered by a fast processor, and display to use what Sony calls a painful technology "TruBlack" LCD display that the company says offers better contrast and reduce glare.

The device has two cameras: a 3-megapixel shooter on the front and a 5 megapixel model on the back.

But S is a bar of stereo speakers, which produced very sad, poor sound. You would think the people who brought you the Walkman should have come up with something a little 'more time, the audio department - but you'd be wrong.

Of course, most tablets these days are valued based on the software.

In the case of tablets Android, it's not exactly a huge effort, almost all newly released devices run very small variations on a theme.

Sony is no different in the sense that the company has opted for slight adjustments in the operating system from Google, rather than an overhaul.

First of all, Sony offers a variety of custom applications designed to the strengths of the game - namely, fun and games. I had the chance to play some of Sony-exclusive applications and content, such as "Crash Bandicoot" a securities transferred directly from the original game for PlayStation.

While "Crash Bandicoot" is not faithful to emulate the work of graphic and audio version of the console, controls left something to be desired. It 'clear that the game was never intended to control the touch screen, and try to hold numerous controls on the screen was not fun.

The tablet, such as the S is capable of playing experience, but trying to imitate the experience of multibuttoned joypad feels like a recipe for disaster.

S Tablet remember that Google has not yet received its operating system compressed yet perfect. Small details - like sometimes not be able to choose the right text or presentation scattered navigation features - making it a harrowing experience generally second hand iPad

Sony In an attempt to change or improve the experience, the company has simply made it more complicated. I do not feel that I wanted the team and work with him. I felt like I wanted to avoid.

Sony is a company that is able to do some very nice equipment and beautifully designed, and I will say that he realized that, with shelf S.

But like previous efforts, it seems Sony is fighting on the software side, making the unit more difficult to recommend other pills.

There is no doubt that Sony has the raw materials and hardware know-how to produce a serious contender in tablet mode.

The competitor, however, is not the S. Tablet
